Digital Video S.R.L (DV) - Technical Provider and End-user

Digital Video is a SME formed in 1981 in Rome (Italy). Its main focus is to develop multi-platform graphics applications for the professional market and its primary activity is the development of Toonz®, a world leader application in the cartoon animation industry. Starting from year 2000 Digital Video started to provide solutions for the multimedia and web markets using innovative technologies.

Realviz (RV) - Technical Provider

REALVIZ is a leading developer of image based creation software based in Sophia Antipolis, France, with U.S. operations in San Francisco, CA; and a satellite sales office in London, Paris and Berlin. REALVIZ develops a suite of image-based content creation solutions for the film, broadcast, gaming, digital imaging, architecture and Internet communities. Derived from years of research efforts at the renowned INRIA Lab in France, the company's applications enable 2D and 3D artists to easily and cost-effectively tackle complex digital imaging projects. REALVIZ' award-winning products are used by thousands of professional photographers, as well as leading production and effects houses, web design, game development and architectural companies worldwide including Cinesite, Framestore CFC, Sony Imageworks, Warner Brothers Animation, Electronic Arts, Buf Compagnie and many others.

Zentrum für Graphische Datenverarbeitung (ZGDV) - Research Organisation

In 1984 the Computer Graphics Center (ZGDV) was established as a European platform for significant application-oriented training, research, and development in the field of computer graphics. Jointly supported by the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Fraunhofer Society, and numerous companies and institutions, ZGDV promotes the use of computer graphics for training and research purposes. The department "Digital Storytelling" of ZGDV forms an interdisciplinary team, mainly from the fields of computer science and of multimedia design. It represents a research area that aims at new production methods for narrative multimedia applications and human computer interaction in digital products for everybody. The main focus of work is on concepts of multimodal interfaces incorporating natural conversations and storytelling ("Conversational User Interfaces", "Interactive Storytelling") as well as work on authoring and development environments for digital applications to be used by non-programmers. The most important projects are the German focus projects EMBASSI (BMBF) and MAP (BMWi), the VR/AR project GEIST (BMBF), Virtual Human (BMBF), art-E-fact (EU IST), as well as "Telebuddy" for Expo2000 or DinoHunter (Dinosaurs applications for the Senckenberg museum in Frankfurt, Germany). ZGDV organizes the TIDSE (International Conference on Technologies for Interactive Digital Storytelling and Entertainment) conference series.

Mixed Reality Laboratory, Nottingham University (NU) - Research Organisation and End-user

The MRL brings together leading researchers from the Schools of Computer Science, Engineering and Psychology to research mixed reality - new technologies that merge the physical and digital worlds. The MRL is focused on the development and application of mixed reality to visualization, learning and knowledge management, and works with artists and designers to explore new forms of expressive media.

Centre for user-oriented IT Design, Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan (KTH) - Research Organisation

CID Centre for user-oriented IT Design is situated at KTH, Stockholm, Sweden. CID's excellence is in user involvement in IT design and development, high quality computer graphics, Virtual reality environments, narration and human-computer interaction. CID is an interdisciplinary environment with about 12 seniors and 15 research students from Human-Computer Interaction, Ethnology, Media, Music and Physical Ergonomics. CID has 17 partners from industry and user organizations. The overall aim is to develop and maintain a competence profile within user oriented design and human-computer interaction.

University of Aveiro (UA) - Research Organisation

The Research Unit of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro is a unit formed by professors, researchers and department post-graduate students. At the present, the unit aggregates a total of 61 members (26 PhDs). UA aims to promote, support and extend research in communication and Art and other domains related to those scientific areas, through the production of investigation work that contributes to the development and dissemination of knowledge in areas such as science and technology of communication and artistic expressions, having as main concern the aggregation of human, artistic and technological dimensions. UA fields of experts includes are displayed in three different areas of knowledge: § communication: interaction, inter-relation, inter-understanding, reception ethics and aesthetics, culture, speech, meaning references, support technologies; § art: establishment of knowledge through artistic creation and experience, aesthetics, technical, poetic experience, art and education; § IT: support to personal and institutional communication and artistic intervention.

The DFKI is the leading German research institute in the field of innovative software technology. The research department Intelligent User Interfaces aims at the development of personal information assistants which facilitate user access to the global information highways, by their ability to retrieve relevant information, reorganize it, and present it to the user as a multimedia presentation.

Alterface (AFC) - Technology provider and End-user

Alterface develops new forms of content for communication, entertainment and learning. Our Salto™ engine allows one to combine data grabbed and analyzed from the 'real' world with digital data and to deliver in real-time enriched experience to the users. For instance, the Station product edutains users who see themselves swimming in an aquarium, flying in the air, or walking on a remote planet.

Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Constructions Aéronautiques (N6K) - End-user

ENSICA ("Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Constructions Aéronautiques") is one of the prestigious French aerospace schools. ENSICA is a public establishment under the Ministry of Defence , General Delegation for Armaments. ENSICA trains multidisciplinarity engineers (civil and military) capable, at outcome, of controlling complex projects within an international context.

Culture Lab University of Newcastle (UNEW) - End-user

As part of Newcastle University's investment in emergent research areas for the 21st century, Culture Lab is a transdisciplinary, project-driven hub financed by the University and by the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Science Research Investment Fund, to build on Newcastle's reputation for international excellence in creative and critical practice-based research. Culture Lab collaborations are designed to forge frameworks for dialogue between previously unrelated sectors. Interdisciplinary teams are shaping tools and environments to create innovative work for public experience, set in a dedicated facility with workshop, seminar, performance and exhibition spaces geared towards growing and showing in vivo research. Key areas of activity include live performance, developed through projects drawing on creative writing, music, theatre, and visual arts practice, pooled with expertise in bodily and linguistic communication, physical and virtual artefacts and architectures, cognition and perception.
